Hikes and things
They started with our move to Pasadena.
One walk down Millard canyon in El nino rains, past rows of fragrant invasive scottish broom, reminicant of childhood smells, and I was hooked. From that first hike to some in the Sierras, some in the Grand Canyon, and hundreds more in the Angeles National Forest, I went on to hiking higher mountains, the Karakorums and Himalayas. Its what led to philantrophy, something I knew nothing about till I experienced the whole hearted hopspitality of mountain folks. What it meant to give back to others, more or less privilidged than yourself, became the obvious thing to do regardless of all else that happened in life.
